Ridge Lytton Estate Petite Sirah boldly exhibits huge amounts of plum, fig, black cherry, and bramble. Ageing in American oak brings some toast and vanilla notes. This is a massive wine; full-bodied, with lots of tannins, and very concentrated. It can easily be cellared for 10-20+ years, and yet is approachable now due to the tannins being so smooth and velvety.
Lytton Springs vineyard hosts several heritage grape varieties, and some of their Petite Sirah plantings date back to 1901. Normally seen in blends, Ridge launched a single-variety Petite Sirah which appeared for the first time in 2002, as a testament to the quality and character of this niche variety grown in this special vineyard.
