Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2011 is sourced from La Plana vineyard, and undergoes rigorous selection so that only the very best grapes make it into the wine. It is only made in years when the vintage is of a sufficiently high standard – none will be released for 2013, 2014, or 2015. The wine ages for 28 months in oak barrels; Tempranillo in American oak, and Mazuelo in French oak before further years maturing in bottle. The end result is one the most sublime of Rioja red wines.
