Ceretto Barolo 2017 is a masterfully constructed wine from the most prestigious DOCG in Italy. Although Ceretto is well-known for its superlative single-vineyard bottlings, this wine is from a mosaic of different vineyards, expertly blended to achieve the perfect balance and complexity. Indeed, some extremely highly rated vineyards are included in the blend, including Bussia; Brunate; Cannubi San Lorenzo; Bricco Rocche; and Prapò (among others). The harmony Ceretto has achieved in blending these components is an impressive feat.
Ceretto was founded in 1937 by Riccardo Ceretto and has remained family-owned to this day. They are certified organic and utilise biodynamic methodology too. Their wines are authentic expressions of Piedmont, but they are not slaves to tradition: they have experimented with French oak barriques (something they have dialed back on after a period of markedly oaky wines) and international varieties. However, they are most famous for a history of acquiring some of the best vineyard plots in the Langhe and pioneering a Burgundian approach to terroir.
